T&L | Motion Graphics, Sound Design
This project was an animated video that explains the mission and vision of T&L Group Ltd. I collaborated with a few designers and led the project from start to completion.
Scriptwriting
I worked with a copywriter after presenting the basic idea. Brainstorming came quick, and I often timed lines out loud to see if it would fit within the allotted runtime. Getting script approval before proceeding with even the storyboards is important as a base for the entire project. Then a voiceover artist was selected from demos and the script forwarded.
Storyboards
Storyboards to clarify the overall direction and effectively communicate the vision to the client. Similar to the scriptwriting phase, it’s essential to finalize and lock the storyboards before progressing. While maintaining some flexibility is valuable, the storyboards should closely represent the intended final outcome. I still prefer to hand-draw sketches so the majority of the content is as such.
Animatic
Sometimes storyboards aren’t enough to get the visuals across and animatics can help greatly. After doing an initial audio mix, the storyboard visuals are synced up with the audio to give further context and make adjustments.
Design
Due to time constraints, style frames were skipped and instead a simple design language document was made. This was also a project that required the modification of stock assets (stock assets on first image and modified assets with custom assets on second image)
Motion Tests
A crucial design choice often involves crafting smooth transitions between scenes. While the storyboard outlines most of these, bringing them to life in the final designs and aligning them with the voiceover timing can be difficult to convey.
Sound Design
The final part of the process is often sound design. While music can cover the bases of video sound, adding little bits of ‘sweeteners’ and other sound effects give a very refined take on video.
